Quickoffice® Joins Symbian Foundation to Deepen its Long-Standing Leadership Position on World's Most-Shipped Smartphone Platform
Leading mobile office provider builds its momentum, joining the Symbian Foundation to participate further in exciting evolution of the platform
Dallas, TX - December 21, 2009 - Quickoffice, Inc., the leading global provider of mobile office productivity software and solutions, today announced the company has joined the Symbian Foundation. By becoming a member, Quickoffice will enjoy access to the rapidly evolving open source baselines released by Symbian, which allows Quickoffice to continue to innovate and deliver its award-winning office products to future releases of the world's most-shipped Smartphone platform.
The Symbian Foundation is committed to moving the Symbian platform to open source by mid-2010. Uniting leading industry developers and companies, the organization hopes to bring broader innovation and engage a larger community in future development. Quickoffice, which was founded in 1997 and has been building on the Symbian platform since its inception, is a long-time leading mobile office developer with its software shipping on tens of millions of Nokia devices worldwide.
"A further proof point to our long-standing relationship with Symbian and commitment to deliver the best mobile office user experience, we are excited to be more involved with such a great organization," said Gregg Fiddes, VP of strategic partnerships and business development at Quickoffice. "As a Foundation member, Quickoffice looks forward to accelerating our support for the quickly changing Symbian platform and its new, open source releases. We will also be examining which areas of our product we can contribute back to the community."
Quickoffice continues to grow its presence on the Symbian platform by increasing the number of devices on which it ships and enhancing its software. Quickoffice allows users to open, view, edit and create native Microsoft Office documents directly on their phone, while maintaining complete data integrity. The latest version, Quickoffice Premier 6, provides complete Word, Excel and PowerPoint '97 to 2007 viewing support for Nokia Symbian devices. It also supports document editing for popular S60 3.x and S60 5.0 touch-based devices.
Users of certain Nokia's Eseries phone can now also upgrade to the latest editing version for free through Quickmanager™, Quickoffice's secure on-device, e-commerce portal. Currently this program includes the Nokia E51, E52, E55, E63, E66, E71, E72, E75 and E90 devices. Users will enjoy more advanced document viewing and editing functionality of Microsoft Office 2007 documents, ZIP file support, password-protected file handling, Excel 2007 chart viewing and multiple usability enhancements.
