Thus far in the wireless evolution, certain nagging factors have contributed to the difficulty of trying to deliver seamless, high fidelity mobile email attachment and remote content viewing. These factors included bandwidth consumption, available device resources, usability and interface problems and cross-platform support.
Mobile access to email has become essential to today's wireless users. When users are away from their desk or home PC, their mobile handset has become both their business and personal lifeline. So delivery of 'push email' to mobile phones is now commonplace. However, today's email solutions typically only offer plain text content. What about those ever-important email attachments? Increasingly, bothbusiness and personal information is sent as a document attachment to a brief email message.
So how can Mobile Service Providers offer their mobile users a convenient and easy way to access critical email attachment content while away from their PCs? Simply: by integrating Quickoffice's Content Transformation Solution (CTS) into their email infrastructure.
Imagine providing your wireless customers with the ability to view a PowerPoint presentation (with animations) attached to an email message… or zoom in on a city map with high fidelity… or view a color-coded sports schedule sent as a PDF… or examine charted financial forecasts in an Excel spreadsheet… or review a red-lined contract sent as a Word document… Your customers now expect to be able to seamlessly view the inevitable email attachments that come to their phone via their 'push email' service.
Quickoffice's Content Transformation Solution (CTS) provides brilliant email attachment viewing, panning and zooming, and compresses the attachment data at the same time!Quickoffice's CTS is a complete software suite that provides Mobile Operators, Service Providers, and OEMs with all the tools necessary to implement an unmatched, outstanding mobile document viewing solution. Cross-Platform Accessibility:
- CTS clients support multiple platform operating systems, providing a complete, cross-platform solution
- Windows® Mobile, Java, Symbian OS® (S60, UIQ), BREW®, Blackberry®, iPhone®, Android®
- Highest quality viewing
CTS overcomes readability and user interface issues by employing the powerful, vector-based open standard "SVGT" (Scalable Vector Graphic - Tiny format) format that readily allows for panning, zooming, scrolling, and text reflow.
- Limits bandwidth consumption
CTS overcomes bandwidth limitations by breaking documents into discrete pages, generating small files (typically 5-20kb per page) that are similar in appearance to the actual printed page. CTS optimizes and compresses content to reduce excessive file size. Customers can select and view only the pages of interest and not worry about downloading large files.
- Optimized for minimal device resources
CTS is specifically designed to address resource constrained handsets, requiring only a very small device memory footprint.
- Provides the 'next generation' mobile email solution
Because CTS preserves the original layout, formatting, and graphics from the original file, the document that the user sees on the device screen is virtually identical to the desktop version.
- Native viewing capability not required
Using the open-standard SVGT format ensures a single viewer application can display any converted email attachment. Converted documents are viewable using any standard SVG viewer, although Quickoffice's market-leading BitFlash™ SVGT Viewers (already licensed by many leading OEM and OS providers worldwide) allow access to additional functionality such as 'text-only' view.
- Adds value and complements existing on-device mobile office software
CTS can be integrated into email clients and any native office software that resides on the device to deliver a significantly enhanced end user experience. Should the user need access to the original native file, the option is there to download it to the device and use the native mobile office suite residing on the phone (using the native application like the award-winning Quickoffice™ Premier suite).
- Private-Labeled Solution
Quickoffice has a CTS white label program that allows service providers to tailor mobile email solutions to their customer base.
- Multi-Platform Clients
Windows® Mobile, Java, Symbian OS® (S60, UIQ), BREW®, Blackberry®, iPhone®, Android®

Quickoffice's Content Transformation Solution consists of two main components:
- CTS Server:
Designed for large-scale/high-volume deployment, the CTS Server is a server infrastructure that transforms and compresses digital content from its original proprietary file format into the lightweight, compact high-fidelity SVGT format, and then delivers the content, upon request, to the 'light' CTS Client.
CTS Server output emulates the 'Print Preview' mode of a native application to produce a reliable and predictable result every time - even with formats not designed for cross-platform consistency.
CTS Server is distributed as an SDK, giving Service Providers a powerful set of tools to facilitate implementation. Fast and extensible, CTS leverages the power and flexibility of Java to support service frameworks based on UNIX, Linux or Windows. CTS Server is easily scalable, allowing Service Providers to easily accommodate increasing customer bases.
The CTS Server also implements security policies, manages sharing of documents and files, and sends share notifications. All server work is seamless and transparent to the end user.
The CTS Server consists of the following components: - DX Server
The DX Server handles the 'heavy lifting' of transforming stored content into the SVGT format (Scalable Vector Graphics - Tiny Profile). SVGT, originally specified for mobile device graphical use cases, provides optimal fidelity and viewing features on the mobile phone. In addition, the server compresses the data for fast and efficient download and navigation, minimizing wait times and data transfer costs. - Preview Server
When a mobile client requests to preview a document, the Preview Server generates page previews and thumbnails. The Preview Server keeps a short term daily cache of files, pages and thumbnails sent to mobile clients. This allows for even more repeated rapid access to content. The Preview Server provides load balancing for DX Server clusters. - Remote Content Access / Storage Server (Delivered through Quickoffice deals with RCA Service Providers)
The RCA server is responsible for synchronizing files stored on PCs with the Remote Storage 'in the cloud'. The RCA server provides file browsing, searching and upload/download of native files from Internet and mobile clients. - CTS Client(s)
The CTS Client is 'light' device-side technology, optimized for mobile usage, that allows mobile email applications to easily and efficiently display the content generated by the CTS Server. The cross-platform CTS Client supports a broad range of mobile OS platforms. The SVGT Player is distributed as an SDK, and includes compiled, device-specific libraries, API Reference Guides and full-featured reference applications.
